FRIENDS OF HANDSWORTH PARK

We had a great summer in the park with Simmerdown reggae fest, a jazz festival at St Mary’s Church, sports events -Tryathlon and others, and the Malcolm Marshall cricket event. We hope you enjoyed them too. The Cricket Teams have done well and will be staying in the Birmingham League.

The community garden has flourished too. Please feel free to help yourself to salad leaves from the front bed if you’re passing. Gardening sessions are Fridays at 11am to 1pm.

At the FOHP committee meeting last week we agreed to fundraise some more money to put a fence and gates at the front of the community garden. They won’t be locked; it’s more for safety of families using the garden.

We were pleased to hear that the artwork for the Handsworth Park Arts Trail will be installed soon – watch out for information about the pieces.

We also heard about the progress of the refurbishment of the Leisure Centre. New lockers will be installed next.

If anyone is good at keeping websites up to date and can volunteer to help keep the Friends Group’s page up to date please let us know.

The trees are looking great with their autumn colours. We love to see photos of the park and if you take any please add them to our facebook page.
