TRAIN TO RUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Handsworth residents Tonia Clarke and Rachel Chiu  are organising a 10k fun run in Handsworth Park on Sunday 14th September in aid of the British Heart Foundation, to celebrate the life of their friend’s son who died in his 20s of a heart condition.

They would like local people to enter the race and are organising training sessions every Sunday at the Boathouse at 10am for beginners and people who have never run before but who want to start. The first session is 27th April – but you can join in any Sunday. The sessions are free as part of the Active Parks scheme.

The training sessions as open to all ages – under 8s must have a parent/carer running/jogging with them.

Tonia: ‘I’m now a UK Athletics qualified run leader and I’ll be doing the sessions with Anthony Hayes who is also a qualified run leader. We’re doing this to celebrate Anthony’s son Pete. If you knew Pete Hayes (he went to Handsworth Grammar School) and would like to get involved in helping out, please let me know as we’re going to need volunteers on the day.’
