0HANDSWORTH AGAINST THE CUTS
- The Peoples Assembly, a national campaign, has called for action against austerity this coming Tuesday November 5th:
Some supporters in Handsworth will be starting the day off with placards at 8am Tuesday outside the library/college on Soho Road. Do join if you can, bring your own placards with messages for Cameron and Osborne. Later in the day there will be a rally from 5pm in town, meeting outside Waterstones near the Bull Ring.
- On the local front, Handsworth Against the Cuts are continuing their campaign on sport and leisure facilities.
They agreed at their last meeting to continue their campaign to keep Laurel Road community centre within local authority care. At the moment the Council’s plan is to put it into an Asset Transfer and they think this will mean a loss of funds and staff. We are calling all users and interested parties to an evening meeting to discuss what action can be taken: Tuesday November 12th at 7pm, Laurel Road Centre, Laurel Road, B21 9PB.
- There are many other campaigns going on across the city including one to keep our libraries open and in public hands: https://www.facebook.com/friendsoftheLoB.
