LOCAL HISTORIAN IN THE PARK
Simon Baddeley wrote a short history of the founding of Handsworth Park, founded near the end of the 19th century. He does occasional walking tours of the park – for history groups, schools, or anyone interested (no group is too small).
The tours are free and last from 30 minutes to 3 hours (with tea and cakes in The Sons of Rest in summer). People meet at the start of the tour at the Park Lodge on Hamstead Road (usually between 11.00 and 13.00).
The tour includes a chance to see old photos and maps of the park. Wheelchairs are welcome and translations from English can be organised by arrangement. Donations to a favourite charity are welcome but otherwise the tours are free.
Simon really enjoys introducing people of all backgrounds to the history of our beautiful Park…in any weather!
