0HANDSWORTH AGAINST THE CUTS
Users of the Laurel Road Sports and Community Centre have formed their own campaign to save their centre and keep it in council hands. They have called for a Community Demonstration:
Hamstead Hall School, Craythorne Ave, Handsworth Wood B20 1HL
- Download and distribute our new flyer/poster (contact us if you need leaflets or posters).
- Tune in to Newstyle Radio 98.7FM Monday 9th Dec 10am-1pm or listen online http://www.newstyleradio.co.uk – you will hear the powerful voices of centre users.
- Next meeting: come and make banners 7pm Tuesday 10th Dec at Laurel Road Community Sports Centre B21 9PB.
2. Massive cuts in services are planned across the city. This is the council consultation meeting planned for our area:
Go to this meeting and tell the council that we need our services – parks, street cleaning, libraries, community centres. The council seems to think a lot of this can be done by volunteers – we’d rather see properly trained people being paid a decent wage!
We are pleased that Handsworth Leisure Centre has so far escaped the axe (it will depend on NHS funding). But Beeches Pool and nearby Newtown are threatened:
